Salisbury, the county seat of Rowan County and the oldest city in the western half of North Carolina, is located in the heart of the beautiful Piedmont area of North Carolina. Over 3 million people live within 90 miles of Salisbury, 1.5 million within 55 miles and 60 percent of the population of the United States is within an overnight stay. The historic Southern Railway line connects major east coast cities to Salisbury. International airports at Charlotte and Greensboro are less than an hour’s drive and provide services to all parts of the United States.
Salisbury has grown from a small town to a city of 30,000, but still maintains its main-street character. It is the birthplace of several internationally-known companies and today enjoys a diversified economy. It is also home to four colleges: Catawba, Livingstone, Hood Theological Seminary, and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.

Many point to Salisbury as a leader in historic preservation and applaud its blossoming into a cultural arts center. The downtown is vibrant with its blocks of beautifully restored commercial buildings wrapped by historic churches and charming residential neighborhoods. Current downtown projects include the restoration of an historic 90-room hotel and the development of an arts and technology district within the railroad corridor. The City is also wrapping up publication of its new Cultural Action Plan. With its rich history of both past and present, Salisbury’s the place!
